Cedar Grove: A Brief History

Established in 1843, the church was originally built from cedar logs. The hand hewn timbers were put together with wooden pegs which remain today. Later, the timbers were covered with white clap-board siding which is now covered by brick. During the Civil War, the church served as a field hospital to the Regiment of Company "C" - Alabama Volunteers. The regiment was organized there under the "cedar grove". Later, the church served as a school for the community.
