Believe In God

The most basic question a person can ask is "What is the meaning of my life?"
Real happiness comes from knowing our purpose.
We know our purpose when we know the One who gives us life.

The Gospel: The Good News of Jesus Christ

God’s Design
We live in a broken world. That’s clear when we turn on the news or check social media.

But we also see traces of beauty in our world - like in a sunset or the laugh of a child.
That is because when God designed the world, it was perfect! There was no death, disease, or suffering.
(Genesis 1:31)

The Problem
Starting with the very first people, we as humans chose to go our own way, leaving God’s perfect design - that leaving is called sin. This is what led to brokenness in our world and in us.
(Genesis 3, Romans 5:12)
The Bible teaches that sin is what separates us from God, and the punishment for sin is death. No one is exempt from sin or death.
(Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23)
We don’t like being in brokenness, so we try to get out through:
Success
Doing good deeds, religion
Drowning out the pain with drugs, alcohol, other things
Relationships
These attempts to get out end up leading right back to brokenness.

The Solution
God loved us so much that he didn’t want us to stay in brokenness. He did what we could not do ourselves - provided the only way out by sending His only son Jesus. Jesus came down into our world, allowed himself to be killed on a cross taking on our sin, and 3 days later he rose from the dead. Then He declared that if anyone would turn from their way, surrender to him, believe that Jesus came, died, and rose again, and make him their King and Lord, they would be forgiven and made new. They would be able to experience God’s perfect design.
(John 3:16, Romans 10:9)

What's next?

Baptism

Baptism is the next step in obedience after accepting salvation through Jesus.
Baptism does not save you - it shows that you have been saved by your faith in Christ.

“For it is by grace you are saved, through faith...it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9

Personal Commitment

After accepting Jesus & being baptized, the next step is committing to a life of obedience to God by devoting yourself to:
- Reading the Bible
- Memorizing Scripture
- Prayer
- Private Worship

if you'd like to learn more about living a life that's committed to obeying God & what we mean by Following Jesus Together, consider joining our Discovering Cedar Grove: Going Deeper class. It's a great way to connect with other believers, learn more about what we believe, and also learn about your own spiritual gifts & how to be a committed follower of Jesus!

Worship Together

Committing yourself to personal worship is so important, likewise, committing yourself to being a part of a church body is just as important.
We gather together to grow together.
“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Ephesians 5:19-20
When we gather & worship, we encourage one another & remind each other of the Gospel by which we are saved!
